Dress and Docs

11.18.2013

My mum's friend gave her this Ferne Cotton dress from very.co.uk. It's about 5 sizes too big for me but i love the flowy chiffon material and pale purple colour. It also came with a black chiffon belt which helps add a bit of grunge along with my Dr Martens.

Now i am very used to being told i dress like a grunge grandma most of the time, mixing all my charity shop, vintage finds as well as my nan's inherited wardrobe with a modern flare. Not to mention my ever growing tea cup, vinyl and other bric-a-brac collections. However i have found new inspiration and wardrobe envy from the Fashionable Fashionista's.

The channel 4 documentary was mentioned to me numerous times by my friends and family, saying  "You have to watch it Sabs, its going to be you in years time!" Now i know they were partly saying it in a jokey way because of my eccentric style however after finally watching the incredible documentary it seems to have effected me a little more than expected. Firstly it has inspired me so much as a filmmaker and i have such love for Sue Bourne's work, (great timing as I'm in my final year of studying tv and film!). Secondly, the incredible women show that age holds no limits and in fact growing older has led them to be able to express their true selves and style. Although it's kind of a role reversal as I'm the younger generation i can see so much of myself in these women and i can just hope i end up as marvellous as they are.

I wish i could explain more how incredible this documentary is but alas i seem to still struggle to put it into words. If you haven't seen it already - you NEED too. It's being brought out on DVD soon which would make a great christmas stocking filler for a loved one! Keep an eye out on the Well Park Productions website for its release. As well as other amazing work by Sue Bourne being available for download very soon!

Have a great week,
Lots of love from a very inspired,
Sabrina Carder
